In Tuesday’s blog, I talked about how critical it was for each of us to contact our local legislators, the Governor and the Secretary of Public Welfare and voice our concern about the reclassification of Erie County from urban to rural. I heard from many of you who agreed that this decision would have far-reaching ramifications for our geographic area. I continue to urge you to write, write, write.
There are only 70 days left until we will be electing our president and legislators. I know that there are very important issues confronting our country today with the economy, jobs and budget deficits, but I also believe that autism should be on the national agenda. The statistics are more than alarming when 1 in 88 children in the United States and 1 in 54 boys are diagnosed with autism. It is so important for each of us to contact the candidates and ask them how they will make a difference for those living with autism.
Check out the recently released 60-second Autism Speaks video featuring people with autism, as well as parents, siblings, teachers and others who have been touched by autism. Share this with your friends and family and very quickly we could be reaching out to thousands who will ask their legislators “How will you make a difference for those living with autism?”
