Last week at the Elizabeth Lee Black School, the hallways didn’t just showcase learning—they celebrated it. 

Our Second Annual Art Show, held April 30 and May 1, transformed the school into a vibrant gallery of student expression. Families, staff, and community members came together to admire a remarkable collection of artwork that reflected the individuality, creativity, and growth of each student. From colorful paintings to mixed-media creations, every piece told a story—of perseverance, imagination, and pride. 

The event was more than an art show—it was a celebration of connection. Guests enjoyed music, activities, and time together, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment that extended well beyond the classroom experience.  

But behind every display, every smile, and every moment of success is something even more powerful: our staff. 

Coinciding with this incredible event was Staff/Teacher Appreciation Week, offering a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the people who make moments like the Art Show—and everyday achievements—possible. 

At the Elizabeth Lee Black School, staff are the heart of everything we do. Teachers, therapists, paraprofessionals, and support team members work collaboratively each day to create an environment where students can thrive. Their dedication goes far beyond instruction—they foster confidence, nurture creativity, and build the relationships that empower students to shine.  

The art on display last week did not happen by chance. It was the result of thoughtful planning, encouragement, and a deep belief in each student’s potential. From preparing materials and guiding projects to organizing the event itself, our staff’s commitment was evident in every detail. 

This culture of engagement and appreciation is a defining strength of the school. By recognizing and celebrating staff contributions, we continue to build a community where both students and team members feel valued, supported, and inspired.  

As we reflect on a week filled with creativity and gratitude, we are reminded that events like the Art Show are not just moments—they are reflections of a larger mission in action.
